Oil and Gas Industries: Are They Still Recruiting?

The gas and oil field services industry is one of those hit hardest by the economic consequences of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. With thousands of employees laid off all over the world, it seems like stating obvious to say that recruitment is not a priority for most companies right now. And while that may be true for the most part, it is not an indisputable fact.

Recruitment agencies

It is well known that most industry giants use dedicated oil and gas recruitment agencies to fulfill their talent acquisition requirements. Many of these agencies are recruitment industry giants in their own right. They connect workers from all over the world to job opportunities in the oil and gas industry.

Current situation

These days, it is true that the agencies don’t clock as much recruiter activity as they used to. However, there are still regions where new workers are in demand. With international travel being heavily restricted, workers cannot fly out to project locations at a moment’s notice, as they used to. Positions available on many oil and gas recruitment agencies are a variety of virtual positions. These positions are mostly for research, or at a managerial level. Also, some locations are still recruiting for on-field technical and entry-level jobs but they now only consider local candidates.

Agency actions

As the industry tries not to panic, recruitment agencies are already looking toward the future. Many agencies have taken steps to take care of their users. Many agencies have expanded their services to include wind and solar industry recruitment. Agencies are also releasing content from experts talking about the future of oil and gas, and the options workers have if the industry does not recover soon enough to stay relevant. Transferable skills analysis and additional training are some of the other services provided by oil and gas recruitment agencies during this unprecedented time.
